Warwickshire have been deducted eight points after an ECB Pitch Panel rated their wicket as "poor" during the LV= County Championship fixture with Worcestershire at Edgbaston.
Day three of the Division One fixture ended on a sour note after Worcestershire batsman Vikram Solanki was forced to check-in at a local hospital after receiving a blow on the head from a Boyd Rankin delivery.
Pitch liaison officers David Hughes and Tony Pigott consulted with umpires, both captains and coaches, and determined that the pitch had demonstrated excessive unevenness of bounce and should therefore be rated "poor".
As a consequence and according to regulations, Warwickshire have been penalised eight points which will be deducted from their aggregate of 2011 LV= County Championship points.
"After interviewing the umpires, the captain and coach of both teams and the Warwickshire head groundsman, the pitch panel determined that the pitch had demonstrated excessive unevenness of bounce and should therefore be rated 'poor'," a statement from the ECB this evening read.
