Yorkshire Director of Cricket Martyn Moxon has said they wouldn't stand in Jason Gillespie's way if he wanted to coach England

Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon has revealed that the England and Wales Cricket Board have yet to contact the county champions over the availability of the Tykes' coach Jason Gillespie.

New ECB director Andrew Strauss acknowledged on Tuesday that former Australia fast bowler Gillespie is "one of the candidates" who could be considered for the vacant role of national coach.

Previous incumbent Peter Moores was sacked at the weekend when Strauss accepted English cricket's top job and former Test captain Strauss is desperate to fill the role by the time this summer's Ashes series starts in July.

Gillespie did not appear post-match after Yorkshire defeated Hampshire by 305 runs and Moxon, when asked if England had been in touch, told Sky Sports News HQ: "No is the easy answer.

"We've got no real answer to make until something happens. But at the moment it's purely what Andrew said yesterday and nothing more at the minute."

Former England, Yorkshire and Durham batsman Moxon was then asked if he had discussed the current coaching situation with Aussie Gillespie.

He added: "Yeah. Of course I have. Jason and I talk to each other a lot. He's had a lot of interest in him of late so we've spoke quite a bit about his future.

"As I say at the moment there's nothing definite from the ECB, until that happens we can't really make any comment because there's nothing to talk about.

"County cricket is funny, isn't it, in that you want your players to go on and play for international teams so you want to develop them to play international cricket and, similarly, with your coaches it's always good if they go on and further their careers.

"It's kind of what county cricket does so it's great for him personally to be linked to the England job and to other jobs but from a purely selfish point of view we hope Jason stays with us. We've got unfinished business here, he has done a great job for us over the past few years. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

"Andrew Strauss has said he is interested in speaking to him, at the moment they haven't asked us to speak to him so we're waiting to see what happens."
