Yorkshire head coach Jason Gillespie has confirmed he has no plans to apply for the vacant role with Aussie state side South Australia.

The news will increase speculation that the 40-year-old Sydney-born bowler may eventually be offered the opportunity to become England coach, a role currently held by under-fire Peter Moores.

It has been reported that Colin Graves, the incoming chairman of the ECB, is keen for Gillespie to take over the national job at some point having led the Headingley-based club to the County Championship title in 2014.

Graves appointed Gillespie as head coach four years ago when he was chairman of Yorkshire CCC.

And Gillespie, who also coaches T20 side Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash, announced on Monday that he is not interested in returning home to his native Australia.

He said: "After careful consideration I've decided against applying. I'm excited about the roles I have with Yorkshire and Adelaide Strikers.

"For clarity, I was asked by SACA if I was going to apply for the role of coaching the state team. I let them know that while I’m flattered by the interest shown, I have decided to not apply.”

The highly-rated Gillepsie, who played 71 Tests and 97 ODIs between 1996 and 2006, won promotion with Yorkshire in his debut season before claiming the county title last year.

Graves is soon to take up office with the England and Wales Cricket Board and, it has been speculated, that Gillespie would be his preferred candidate should he dispense with the services of Moores following the disappointing Test series against the West Indies which ended in a draw on Sunday.
