Averaging almost 69 in four-day cricket this term, the 26-year-old last week made a career-best 251 against Lancashire – his second double ton of the season - to boost his side's title hopes.

And Lloyd says Lyth deserves international recognition for his achievements.

“I’ve seen one player this season who I think will walk into England’s team very soon – and that’s Adam Lyth of Yorkshire,” said the Sky Cricket pundit.

“He’ll walk into England’s team. As an opening batsman for Yorkshire, in Yorkshire, to be comfortably the top scorer in County Championship Division One, he’s banging the door down to play for England.”

Yorkshire can win the Championship with victory in their match at Nottinghamshire, which starts on Tuesday, and you can see the contest live on Sky Sports 2 HD from 10am.

Assessing Yorkshire’s title bid, Lloyd says they are the most impressive side in the country and are reaping the rewards of their set-up.

“It’s been an excellent domestic season,” he said. “I’ve watched Yorkshire a few times and I think they’re by far the best Championship team, with some wonderful players.

“They’re a club that do it right; they’re well managed, well run, well led and they’re producing some wonderful players.”

In the final Sky Sports Cricket podcast of the summer, David Lloyd also discussed England’s ‘predictable’ ODI series defeat to India and why he thinks Alastair Cook should be dropped for next year’s World Cup. Download it from www.skysports.com/podcast or click below.
