Hampshire all-rounder Sean Ervine has been ruled out of action for up to six weeks after undergoing surgery on his injured finger.

Ervine was hit on his left index finger against Somerset last week and now looks unlikely to be available until deep into August.

Hampshire coach Dale Benkenstein told BBC Radio Solent: “The break is not healing as hoped so it's a big blow in all forms, especially in T20 where he's a big specialist."

Hampshire meanwhile will let Liam Dawson go out on loan. The spinning all-rounder has struggled with the bat this season and has been displaced in the team by Sean Terry.

"It's been disappointing as Liam shows a lot of promise, but the numbers are just not there with the bat," Benkenstein said.

"Ideally, we would like him to be in the top six as a batter, but you're doing a disservice to other players in the second XI who are putting up good enough scores."

"I think there would be quite a few counties who would want him. He's disappointed he's not playing, but we just can't find a place for him in our team at the moment."
