Former Australia batsman Phil Jaques has been released from the second year of his Nottinghamshire contract after being appointed assistant coach of New South Wales Blues.
The 35-year-old opener has impressed with 894 County Championship runs in 11 matches this summer for Notts and had been due to return to Trent Bridge for another spell next season.
However, that will no longer happen with Jaques taking up a new post with NSW this week which will see him assist head coach Trevor Bayliss and work closely with the youth teams.
Notts director of cricket Mick Newell said: "Phil has made a big impact this season and we would never stand in the way of a player in his situation when a job comes along that's a perfect fit."
NSW chief executive Andrew Jones added: "We are very fortunate to have a player of Phil Jaques' calibre return to Cricket NSW.
"We believe that he has the skills and desire to be a very successful coach and his presence greatly enhances the quality of our Academy and Pathway programmes."
The left-hander has had two spells playing for Yorkshire, having also represented Northants and Worcestershire.
He played 11 Tests for Australia - his last appearance coming against the West Indies in 2008 - and averaged 47.47 and he also appeared in six one-day internationals.
