Joe Burns has cut short his stay at Leicestershire and will return to Australia for treatment on a hip problem.
The batsman has been hampered by a series of niggling injuries since arriving at Grace Road in May as an overseas replacement for Ramnaresh Sarwan.
The 23-year-old was regarded as an Ashes prospect earlier this year, but he has scored only 214 County Championship runs at an average of 30.57, although he has been in good form in the Friends Life t20 and Yorkshire Bank 40 competitions.
Burns was scheduled to leave the county next month, but he has been granted an early release and will now head back to his homeland to regain full fitness in time for the Australian domestic season.
Leicestershire chief executive Mike Siddall said: "Joe has been affected by a shin injury and then a slight hip problem during his time with us.
"He is returning home for recuperation and treatment in order to prepare for Brisbane Heat's trip to India in September for the Champions League.
"I'd like to thank Joe for his contribution to the team and wish him well in his career in Australia."
