Andrew Miller has earned a one-year deal with Sussex after impressing on pre-season tours to South Africa and Dubai.
The seam bowler, capped by England at U19 level, was released by Warwickshire at the end of last season.
Sussex offered Miller a month's trial, and director of cricket Mark Robinson saw enough to keep the 25-year-old on.
He said: "Andrew has worked really hard to get this opportunity. He has come from having nothing to earning the right to having a contract through hard work and perseverance.
"We've been impressed by his attitude, commitment and the repeatability of his action. As a bowler, he is different to our other seamers and hopefully he will kick on from here."
Miller said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be given this opportunity at a club like Sussex.
"I had a fantastic pre-season and everything has progressed really well with the trips to Port Elizabeth and Dubai.
"I am really looking forward to making an impact within the squad as we go forward."
