Dougie Brown is interested in succeeding Ashley Giles as Warwickshire's director of cricket.

The former Bears all-rounder has been an assistant coach at Edgbaston since 2008 and helped secure the County Championship title this year.

And with Giles off to take charge of England's limited-overs teams in January, Brown is ready to make the step up.

He said: "I will be putting my hat in the ring for the director of cricket role.

"I have a bit of experience and it is a help I have worked in this environment for a long time and understand what it entails and the dynamics of the team.

"It will be a big challenge for whoever takes over and Warwickshire's loss is England's gain with Ashley's appointment. Following him will be tough.

"But I am sure there will be a number of strong candidates for what is a very attractive post. It is a settled dressing room, with a great work ethic."
