Nottinghamshire pace bowler Andy Carter has signed a new three-year contract at Trent Bridge.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a promising start to his first-class career and scooped 25 wickets in Division One of the LV= County Championship this summer.

Carter was also the Outlaws' joint leading wicket-taker in the Friends Life t20 and Notts director of cricket Mick Newell believes the Lincoln-born quick will get "better and better".

He told the Notts official website: "Andy has progressed nicely and I hope that he can establish himself as one of our senior bowlers during the term of this contrac.

"This has been a breakthrough season for him after a period where injuries were disrupting his progress and he now has a good understanding of how to prepare himself for the rigours of the season.

"He has an unusual action with good pace and an aggressive bouncer and he has the potential to get better and better."

Speaking on his new deal, Carter added: "I've been pleased to stay fit all season and be in the side in all formats but I feel that there is more to come from me.

"I've worked hard on my strength and fitness and in time I would like to lead the attack."
