Derbyshire have confirmed that batsman Matt Lineker has left the club after opting not to renew his contract.

The 27-year-old's current deal with the Falcons was due to expire at the end of the season but he will now leave to explore his future options.

Lineker had joined Derbyshire ahead of the 2011 season and won the Second XI Player of the Year award in his debut campaign, while he has gone on to average 19.17 in 10 first-class appearances.

Head coach Karl Krikken told the county's official site: "Matt departs with the very best wishes of everyone at the club. His journey from club cricketer to professional is a fine example to young players around Derbyshire and throughout the country.

"He got off to a few positive starts during his run in the team this year, but was unfortunately unable to convert them into big scores and we are now looking at alternative options at the top of the order for next season."

While Lineker has decided to leave, pace bowler Mark Turner has committed his future to Derbyshire after signing a new two-year deal.
