Kevin Pietersen was forced to miss the start of the final day of Surrey's clash with Leicestershire to have a scan on a calf injury.

Pietersen has dominated the headlines since Andrew Strauss was appointed as England's director of cricket amid reports that an international recall might be on the cards.

The Surrey batsman had been told he needed to score big runs in the County Championship and he did just that earlier in this match at the Kia Oval.

Pietersen scored a career-best 355, the first 327 of those runs coming before a meeting with Strauss and ECB chief executive Tom Harrison on Monday night.

But it emerged on Tuesday that a 'lack of trust' between the ECB and Pietersen meant no recall would be forthcoming in the short-term.

Pietersen spent some time off the field after his knock, as Leicestershire reached 301-5 in their second innings, but he arrived as scheduled before play on Wednesday.

However he was soon driving away from the ground to have a scan and there was no comment when, or if, he would return ahead of Surrey's second innings later on.
