Gautam Gambhir hit a half century as Kolkata Knight Riders cruised to a six-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League.

A disciplined bowling display from Kolkata restricted Delhi to a modest total of 146-8 before Gambhir (60) and Yusuf Pathan (40) propelled the reigning champions past the target with almost two overs to spare.

The hosts made a stuttering start to their innings and were reduced to 22-2 after Sunil Narine breached the defences of South African batsman JP Duminy (5).

Shreyas Iyer (31) and Manoj Tiwary (32) added much needed momentum, but Delhi were left struggling on 95-4 after the latter was caught by Pathan off seamer Morne Morkel.

Yuvraj Singh (21) was then needlessly dismissed as he wandered out of his crease while attempting to sweep leg spinner Piyush Chawla, allowing Robin Uthappa to complete a simple stumping.

There would be no late order fireworks as Umesh Yadav (2-18) accounted for Angelo Mathews and Kedar Jadhav during a stifling spell of fast bowling.

Domnic Muthuswami tried to disrupt Kolkata’s reply, firstly dismissing Uthappa (13) and then Suraykumar Yadev (0), who was caught by Imran Tahir.

But Gambhir kept the visitors on course and had smashed eight fours before he was skittled by Tahir, while Pathan blasted 40 runs off 26 balls to seal the victory.
