West Indies spinner Sunil Narine pulls out of World Cup squad

Sunil Narine has withdrawn from West Indies' World Cup squad to continue working on his remodelled bowling action.

The spinner was named in the 15-man party, despite spending five months out of the international game to work on an action that was reported during the Champions League Twenty20.

A statement from the West Indies Cricket Board said all of Narine's deliveries are now being recorded as legal, but the player is lacking confidence that he can maintain his new action in "the intensity of the Cricket World Cup".

"Going in to the World Cup is a little too much too soon," said Narine, who was No 2 in the one-day international bowling rankings before his time out.

"After consulting the WICB, for both West Indies and my sake we have decided to delay my return to international cricket until I am 100 per cent confident in all that I do.

"Whilst I am very happy with the progress made to date with my action, and I express my thanks to the coaches working with me in Trinidad and Dr Daryl Foster in Perth, Australia, I am withdrawing from the World Cup.

"I would like to thank the WICB for their support and wish the West Indies team the very best for the World Cup campaign."

West Indies have not yet named a replacement for Narine, who returned to domestic cricket with Trinidad and Tobago earlier in January.
