Middlesex batsman Dawid Malan has been rewarded for his good form with a new three-year contract which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2017 season at least.

The 27-year-old, who has played more than 260 first XI games for the club after joining in 2006, notched 1,137 runs last year at an average of more than 45.

It is the second time Malan has scored 1,000 first-class runs in a season and Middlesex's Managing Director of Cricket, Angus Fraser believes there is more to come.

He should be in the prime of his career during this contract and is at an age where he has many productive years to come. I believe he still has the chance to push for higher honours.

Praising the batsman, who has now scored 10,370 runs in all forms of the game, Fraser told the club’s official website: "I am delighted that Dawid has signed a new deal with the club and would like him to spend his entire career at Lord's.

"My time with Middlesex as MD of Cricket has coincided with his career and it is great to see a player at your club begin to produce a set of figures that should ensure they will be fondly talked about by members in many years to come.

"Dawid remains one of the more gifted cricketers in county cricket and it has been good to see him score runs in all forms of the game this season. He should be in the prime of his career during this contract and is at an age where he has many productive years to come. I believe he still has the chance to push for higher honours.

"As one of Middlesex's senior players we will be looking for him to provide the club with leadership as we move forward and look to improve on what has been a disappointing season for the club."
