Richie Richardson takes over as West Indies coach following Ottis Gibson's departure

Ottis Gibson has left his job as West Indies coach just hours before a series against Bangladesh.

The former England bowling coach, who led West Indies to the World Twenty20 title in 2012, will be replaced on an interim basis by team manager Richie Richardson.

The news follows recent changes to the selection panel which saw Clive Lloyd brought in to oversee a team including Courtney Walsh and Eldine Baptiste.

A statement from the West Indies Cricket Board read: "The West Indies Cricket Board and Mr Ottis Gibson mutually agreed to terminate their association with immediate effect.

"On behalf of the Board and West Indies cricket as a whole we express our gratitude to Ottis for his work, particularly in coaching the team to winning the ICC World Twenty20 in 2012, and offer our best wishes to him in all his future endeavours."

Gibson was appointed to the job in early 2012 but, despite world success at T20 level, failed to bring about a significant improvement in Test results.

West Indies are currently ranked eighth and have lost home and away to New Zealand in the past 12 months.

Next up are Bangladesh, who play the first of three one-day internationals on Wednesday in Grenada before a one-off T20 international and two Tests.

Former captain Richardson will take charge with immediate effect.
