India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was left frustrated by a number of ‘soft dismisals’ after his side relinquished their series lead with a heavy defeat to England at the Ageas Bowl on Thursday.
Dhoni, who revealed that injured pace bowler Ishant Sharma will miss the fourth Test at Old Trafford, was frustrated by his side losing flurries of wickets at key times during the third Test.
England racked up 569-7 declared in their first-innings and India responded with 330 before being skittled for just 178 in 66.4 overs in their second knock.
"I don't think we played good cricket early on," he told Sky Sports.
"There were quite a few soft dismissals, that phase when Jinks (Ajinkya Rahane) got out and a couple of others fell had a big impact on the game.
"And I think last night, that last session had a big impact. We lost a few wickets and a few of them were soft dismissals. Without that session we would have been facing a different game.
"I think we played the fast bowlers well, Moeen bowled well but we let him bowl well. It's important to be positive against spinners."
