Nottinghamshire have appointed former Surrey coach Chris Adams as a consultant batting coach.

Adams, who was dismissed from his role at Surrey last June following the county's slump and eventual relegation to the LV= County Championship's Division Two, will oversee the Trent Bridge club's batting talent below first-team level.

The 44-year-old, a highly-respected former professional who amassed 19,535 first-class runs and was one of Wisden's five cricketers of the year in 2004, has recently completed a stint as consultant of the Sri Lanka national team.

Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell is hopeful the appointment of Adams can be beneficial to the squad.

"Chris is held in very high regard and we're pleased that he has taken this opportunity to spend some time assessing our players, coaching and facilities," said Newell.
