England batsman Michael Carberry has signed a three-year extension to his contract at Hampshire.
The 33-year-old has less than six months remaining on his previous deal, but has now committed his future to the county until the end of the 2017 season.
The left-hander joined Hampshire from Kent in 2006 and has established himself as one of the most reliable performers in the County Championship.
He is closing in on 300 first-class appearances for Hampshire, who named Carberry as their Batsman of the Year last season after he compiled 2,682 runs in all competitions.
“It’s taken some time but I’m pleased it’s now done and dusted,” said Carberry, whose excellent form last season earned him a place in England’s Ashes squad.
“I can now just concentrate on doing well for the club for the next three years and hopefully we can be successful.
“If we can secure promotion this year in the County Championship that would be great, it would be nice to play Division One cricket again soon and hopefully I can continue to do well for the club by scoring some runs.
“Hopefully, we can win some more silverware before I finish all together and I’m looking forward to the next three years.”
Hampshire director of cricket Giles White added: “As well as being an extremely popular figure at Hampshire, Michael is a proven match winner and senior player that leads by example.
“It is great to have him around and playing his part in what promises to be an exciting period for the club.”
Carberry has featured in two record partnerships for Hampshire, putting on a remarkable 523 for the third wicket with Neil McKenzie against Yorkshire in August 2011.
Just a month later, Carberry and Jimmy Adams combined for a second-wicket stand of 373 against Somerset to surpass the previous record that had stood for 90 years.
