Reports in Australia claim that Kevin Pietersen is poised to play for Melbourne Stars in the fourth KFC T20 Big Bash League.
Pietersen, who is currently in action with the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League, is a free agent after he was sacked by England following their Ashes debacle in Australia last winter.
Australian website Cricket.com claim Melbourne have already been in talks with Pietersen's management - although the Big Bash's strict embargo period means there is no prospect of an imminent deal.
Cricket.com quotes Stars CEO Clint Cooper as telling them: "We've had good, robust discussions with Kevin's management which is a positive sign moving forward.
"But at the moment we're in the throes of an embargo period so until that finishes, we won't be doing anything definitive."
Meanwhile, Australian TV station Channel 10 are reporting the Pietersen has told Melbourne players of his intention to join the club.
