Rikki Clarke should be fit for the new county season despite being ruled out of action for two months.
The Warwickshire all-rounder has undergone an operation on his ankle to clear up some longstanding problems.
He had hoped to avoid going under the knife but when injections failed to solve the problem Clarke opted for surgery.
He needs to recuperate for eight weeks but Bears director of cricket Dougie Brown said: "He should be fine for the start of the season.
"He should be cricket-fit by the latter stages of our pre-season trip to Barbados in March so will be able to get bowling again well before the season proper starts."
