Surrey have released all-rounder Zander de Bruyn with immediate effect.

The 38-year-old Johannesburg-born player signed from Somerset in 2010 but has now left the club by mutual consent.

Alec Stewart, who is running team affairs on a temporary basis, said: "I would like to thank Zander for his efforts over the past three years at Surrey.

"He has been an extremely popular member of the dressing room and has made important contributions with both bat and ball in all forms of the game."

De Bruyn added: "I have cherished my time with Surrey and I would like to wish the players and management all the best for the future.

"I am now looking forward to the next stage of my career."

Meanwhile veteran spinner Gareth Batty has signed a two-year extension to his contract which keeps him at the club until 2015.

And England fast bowler Chris Tremlett has extended his deal to the end of next season.
