David Ripley: Delighted with depth of bowling options at Northants
Northamptonshire have bolstered their seam bowling options with the signing of Muhammad Azharullah.
The Pakistan-born paceman, now a UK resident, has taken 190 first-class wickets in domestic cricket in Pakistan at an average of 26.50.
The 29-year-old has signed a one-year contract with Northants, and head coach David Ripley is delighted to have added another seamer to his squad.
"We are pleased that Azhar has decided to join us as he will provide proven first class quality in the seam bowling department, providing healthy competition for places," Ripley said.
"He bowls with good pace and having learnt his trade in Pakistan has developed ways of getting batsmen out on flat sub continent pitches."
Northants chief executive David Smith added: "Our seam bowling attack with Copeland, Willey, Crook, Evans, Stone, Hall, Daggett, Azharullah and Sweeney offers us good cover for potential injury and player rotation to manage work load.
"We also have good spin bowling options with Middlebrook, De Lange and Spriegel."
