MS Dhoni: So proud as India take 1-0 lead in series
India captain MS Dhoni admits he is still pinching himself after scoring his match-winning double-century against Australia.
Australia counterpart Michael Clarke said Dhoni's magnificent innings was the difference between the two teams.
Dhoni's bowlers dismissed Australia for 241 on the final morning leaving the hosts with just 50 to knock off for victory, which they did for the loss of two wickets.
"I had never dreamt that I would get a double in Tests. I had never even dreamt of playing for the country," said Dhoni.
"I had never dreamt that I would get a double in Tests. I had never even dreamt of playing for the country."
"It was important to play some shots. If you have those extra catching fielders, you might make one mistake and end your innings. I had to play a few shots to try and spread the field. That was the motive," said Dhoni, who was named man-of-the-match.
"But the first partnership was important. Sachin Tendulkar and Cheteshwar Pujara batted for a period of time. The partnership between Virat (Kohli) and Sachin was crucial. It tired the bowlers a bit."
Dhoni also picked out off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who returned with a match haul of 12-198.
"Ashwin bowled brilliantly. He bowled in right areas and has variations. He was consistent in this match. In the second innings, he was well supported by Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh)."
Dhoni's men won the first Test against England last year before losing the series and he is determined to avoid a repeat.
"It's important to be focused now, but at the same time it is important that the bowlers take some time off now," he said.
