India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni declared himself happy with his side's overall performance in the five-wicket win over England in the first Twenty20 International.

The hosts comfortably chased down a target of 158 with 13 balls to spare in Pune to claim a morale-boosting victory following their defeat in the recent Test series.

"I felt each and every bowler, apart from Yuvraj, bowled at least one bad over in the game. But I'm overall very happy with the performance."

All-rounder Yuvraj Singh followed up his 3-19 with the ball with a blistering knock of 38 from 21 deliveries that included two fours and three sixes.

"The pressure was on the bowlers," Dhoni said in the post-match presentation.

"The way (Alex) Hales started - he went after the bowlers - that was the difficult part. We all know it's a bit easier to score against the new ball on the sub-continent, particularly in India.

"It was important from the eighth over that we tried to bring the team back into the game. And the fielding, which I wanted the team to do well...I thought we did brilliantly."

Dhoni reserved special praise for Yuvraj, who claimed the crucial scalps of Hales, who made 56 from 35 balls, and England captain Eoin Morgan in the same over.

"Yuvraj was brilliant. He bowled really well and at the right pace," the wicketkeeper-batsman added.

"I felt each and every bowler, apart from Yuvraj, bowled at least one bad over in the game. But I'm overall very happy with the performance."

India will look to complete a series sweep when the two teams meet in the second and final T20I in Nagpur on Saturday, live on Sky Sports.
