Mitchell Johnson is on course to make his first Test appearance in more than a year, after being called into Australia's squad for the next encounter with South Africa which starts on Friday in Perth.
Johnson is one of three potential replacements for injured fast bowler James Pattinson who has been ruled out for the remainder of the Australian summer due to a rib injury.
"I feel that I'm ready," said Johnson, who looks to be returning to his best after impressive Sheffield Shield returns in the struggling Western Australia side.
"I'm enjoying my cricket, having fun with it and I feel like I'm pretty much at my best.
"That consistency is right up there again and I'm really happy with how things are going and if the opportunity came along again I'm definitely ready for it."
Ricky Ponting retains his spot in the squad despite scoring a total of just 20 runs from his three innings in the series so far.
Mitchell Starc, who was 12th man in each of the first two Tests, is part of a 14-man squad.
However, Rob Quiney has been dropped by Australia's selectors for the third and final Test. The opening two both ended in draws.
