Black Caps fly out Tuffey

Veteran seamer to provide World Cup cover

Cover story: Tuffey will join up with New Zealand's World Cup squad

New Zealand have drafted in Daryl Tuffey to provide bowling cover for the remainder of their World Cup campaign.

Tuffey, 32, has been brought in because Kyle Mills is struggling with a quad strain.

National selector Mark Greatbatch said: "The medical team are working hard to get Kyle fit and we are hopeful he will still play a big part in the World Cup, so bringing in Daryl is a precaution.

"Getting Daryl over to India early gives him the best chance of adjusting to the different time zone and conditions should he become part of the official squad."

Tuffey has played in 94 one-day internationals for his country, taking 110 wickets. He also got the chance to impress when Mills was injured prior to the 2007 World Cup, but struggled for form and ultimately returned home with a shoulder injury.

The Black Caps are guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals having won four of their five matches so far and currently top Group A.
