India seamer Praveen Kumar has been ruled out of the World Cup through injury, with Shanthakumaran Sreesanth taking his place in the squad.

Praveen was a major doubt for the tournament after picking up an elbow injury during the recent tour of South Africa.

He was treated at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore before travelling to England for further assessment, but his absence has now been confirmed after a fitness test.

Sreesanth has been chosen as a replacement ahead of Ishant Sharma and Vinay Kumar.

The 28-year-old is currently a regular in India's Test XI and has played 51 one-day internationals since his debut in 2005.

India get their World Cup campaign underway against co-hosts Bangladesh in Dhaka on February 19.
