New Zealand have called up James Franklin to replace Hamish Bennett for the remaining two Tests on their tour of India.
Canterbury seamer Bennett made his debut in the drawn series opener in Ahmedabad but suffered a groin injury on the first day and has been sent home for treatment and rehabilitation.
His departure has created a vacancy in the squad for the return of all-rounder Franklin, who played the most recent of his 26 Tests in April 2009.
"It is an unfortunate injury for Hamish," said Black Caps coach Mark Greatbatch.
"He will miss the remainder of the Test series against India. However, it does create another opportunity for James Franklin to come back into the Black Caps squad.
"Franklin showed good form with bat and ball in Zimbabwe, where he successfully led New Zealand A to a series win."
New Zealand are also waiting on the fitness of all-rounder Jesse Ryder after he hurt his hurt his calf during his first-innings century in Ahmedabad and was unable to bowl on the final two days.
The second Test starts in Hyderabad on November 12.
