India pair Gautam Gambhir and Ishant Sharma will miss the second Test against Australia due to knee injuries.

Opening batsman Gambhir and seam bowler Ishant suffered their respective problems during the first Test, which India won by one wicket in Mohali.

Ishant played through the pain to combine in an 81-run stand for the ninth wicket with VVS Laxman, who needed a runner because of a back injury during his match-winning knock of 73 not out.

Laxman has not been officially ruled out of the second Test and is included in a 15-man India squad alongside uncapped duo Abhinav Mukund and Jaidev Unadkat, who have been called up to replace Gambhir and Ishant.

The second Test begins in Bangalore on October 9 with India requiring just a draw to clinch the two-match series.

India squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt, wkt), Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Suresh Raina, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh, Shantakumran Sreesanth, Amit Mishra, Pragyan Ojha, Cheteswar Pujara, Murali Vijay, Abhinav Mukund, Jaidev Unadkat
