"We can only select a player who is cleared by the board and who is 100 percent fit, both are issues with Younus."
Mohsin Khan Quotes of the week

Former skipper Younus recently had a life ban - imposed for his role in the infighting that marred the tour of Australia at the turn of the year - overturned by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

But chief selector Mohsin Khan revealed the PCB have not yet cleared Younus to return to the fold - and also questioned the 32-year-old's fitness.

"We can only select a player who is cleared by the board and who is 100 percent fit, both are issues with Younus," said Mohsin.

Veteran trio

Mohammad Yousuf, another to have a life ban revoked, is one of three veterans to be recalled.

Yousuf, who was flown in mid-way through the ongoing Test series to stiffen the tourists' misfiring batting line-up, is joined by all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar in a 16-man squad.

Paceman Umar Gul has also been retained after making good progress in his recovery from a torn hamstring, sustained just over three weeks ago.

But there is no place for ex-skipper Shoaib Malik, who has been dropped.

One-day specialist Shahid Afridi is retained as captain, meaning Test skipper Salman Butt will be back in the ranks.

Pakistan are scheduled to play England in two Twenty20 internationals and five one-day internationals from September 5-22.

Squad: Shahid Afridi (capt), Salman Butt, Shahzaib Hasan, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Yousuf, Azhar Ali, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal (wkt), Fawad Alam, Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Amir, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Shoaib Akhtar, Wahab Riaz
