Pakistan bowler Umar Gul has been ruled out of the rest of his country's second Test against England with a hamstring injury.

The seamer picked up the injury when running in to bowl at Edgbaston and was withdrawn from action to be sent for a scan.

The tourists managed to bowl England out for 251 in his absence, with off-spinner Saeed Ajmal taking career-best figures of 5-82 before Pakistan responded with 19-1 by the close.

However Pakistan, who were easily defeated in the first Test at Trent Bridge, still trail by 160 runs thanks to their meagre first innings total of 72.

And now they have been handed a further blow with the news that Gul will not be available for the remaining three days and his fitness for the third and fourth Tests is also in doubt.

"Umar has gone to hospital for an MRI and we will know later today how long he will be out for but he will not play again in this game," Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed told Reuters.
