Northamptonshire have suspended Niall O'Brien and stripped him of the vice-captaincy after a breach of team rules.
The county would not disclose the reason for the Irishman being disciplined, but said they would be launching an investigation into the matter.
Irishman O'Brien was left out of Northants' last two Friends Provident t20 matches against Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire as a result of his actions.
Steelbacks chief executive Mark Tagg would only confirm that an investigation was underway at that they would be meeting with O'Brien to discuss the problem.
"Niall will face an internal disciplinary and we'll be meeting with him in the near future," said Tagg.
"He was suspended from the Derbyshire game at the weekend and has had the vice-captaincy taken away from him until the matter is resolved.
"That is as much as we are prepared to say at the moment."
Northants have been struggling for runs in the t20 competition, and could do with the wicketkeeper-batsman's expertise in the shortest format of the game.
