Opener named in Australia's 13-man squad for Hobart Test

Simon Katich has been named in Australia's 13-man squad for the final Test against Pakistan, starting in Hobart on January 14. The opening batsman was a late withdrawal from the second Test in Sydney due to an elbow injury and will need to prove his fitness if he is to feature at the Bellerive Oval. Katich's New South Wales team-mate Phillip Hughes replaced him at the SCG, a match Australia won by 36 runs in thrilling fashion when Pakistan failed to chase a target of just 176. "Simon has been having regular treatment on his arm injury since being ruled out of the Sydney Test and will travel to Hobart with the squad where he will continue his rehabilitation," Australia physio Alex Kountouris said. "A decision on his availability will be made closer to the start of the Test in Hobart after he's had an opportunity to bat in the nets to test his injury." Katich is the only addition to the 12-man squad on duty in Sydney, chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch seeing no need to make changes for the final Test of the home summer with Australia holding an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. "Katich continues to make progress on his elbow injury and with a week to go before the Test starts in Hobart, he will be given as much time as possible to prove his fitness," Hilditch said. Australia squad: R Ponting (capt), D Bollinger, M Clarke, B Haddin, N Hauritz, P Hughes, M Hussey, M Johnson, S Katich, C McKay, M North, P Siddle, S Watson
