Bowler signs contract extension

Matt Mason has signed a one-year contract extension with Worcestershire that takes him through to the end of next season. The 35-year-old has once again led the bowling attack this season, taking 29 championship wickets at an average of 30. The Australian will continue in his part-time role as bowling coach and is delighted to retain his association with the New Road county. "I am absolutely thrilled to sign a contract for a further year," he said. "The plans the club has for the future excite me and I want to be part of that future. "We have a new winter base at Malvern College to look forward to using and we are producing a group of exciting young players coming through the Academy and 2nd XI ranks. "I enjoy my part time role as bowling coach but still feel I have much to offer as a player. The club has been very good to me and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else." Director of cricket, Steve Rhodes, added: "Yet again Matt has proved to be one of our front line bowlers this season. "I am delighted he has agreed to carry on playing for at least another season whilst continuing to have such a valuable input with our young bowling attack in his coaching role."
