World Twenty20 hero refuses to consider return

Pakistan captain Younus Khan insists he will not go back on his decision to retire from Twenty20 cricket. After leading his country to the World Twenty20 title last month, the 31-year-old said he felt he was too old to play the shortest form of the game and announced that the final had been his last game. Although there had been hopes that he would be persuaded to play against Sri Lanka in the Twenty20 match at the end of Pakistan's current tour, Khan is convinced he was right to quit. "My decision is final," he said. "I don't consider myself fit enough for this format of the game. "I had made the decision to retire even before we won the World Cup, so it's final. "I just want to focus and concentrate on building up a strong Test and one-day side." He added: "I sincerely believe that Pakistan has a number of world-class players ideally suited for T20 cricket, so there is no dearth of talent for this form of the game. "There are enough players in the team capable of captaining the side as well."

No discussions

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt had suggested that he felt Younus could be persuaded to change his mind, but the player says there have been no discussions on the subject. "The PCB chairman was here in Sri Lanka, but he didn't speak to me about retirement," he said. "We have also spoken on the phone, but nothing has been said about retirement."
