The Worcestershire captain, 32, was elected ahead of Shaun Udal, Dominic Cork, Mal Loye, Michael Brown and Stephen Peters in a keenly-fought race.

"I am honoured that the players have chosen me to represent them as their chairman," Solanki said.

"I intend to build on the superb work already being undertaken by the PCA, in acting in the best interests of our members and driving the game forward."

PCA chief executive Sean Morris added: "The office of chairman is a crucial role in the PCA, and I'm looking forward to welcoming Vikram into our senior management team.

"With nearly two decades of experience of both domestic and international cricket, Vikram is well equipped to assist the PCA in its central role of working with the key stakeholders, to ensure improvement both on and off the field."
