Gloucestershire will announce the signing of New Zealand international James Franklin as on overseas player for the summer in the next few days.
28-year-old Franklin has played for the county before - appearing in three Championship matches four years ago after touring with New Zealand.
The left-armed paceman took 12 wickets at an average of 21, and also made 134 runs at 33.5 during his previous stint, and he is set to renew acquaintances in Bristol this year.
Gloucestershire chief executive Tom Richardson says Franklin has basically agreed to join Bristol for the season, with only a few loose ends to tie-up.
"There are still one or two details to tie up, but we are confident of announcing the signing of James in the next few days," said Richardson.
Big signing
Director of cricket John Bracewell is confident his compatriot will prove to be a valuable signing for Gloucestershire this coming season.
Former New Zealand coach Bracewell labels Franklin as a genuine all-rounder, and sees big things for him this summer.
"James is capable of batting at six and taking the new ball, so he will be an excellent acquisition," said Bracewell.
"As a left-armer, he will add variety to our bowling attack - and as a genuine all-rounder, his presence will enable us to play two spinners when the pitches are suitable."
Franklin has appeared in 23 Tests and 65 one-day internationals for New Zealand, and he has previously spent a season in Glamorgan as their overseas player in 2006.
