New Zealand Brendon McCullum will play in Friday's Commonwealth Bank series match against Australia after recovering from injury.
The Black Caps had flown in Gareth Hopkins as cover after McCullum had suffered a minor hip flexor injury.
McCullum played in the first match of the CB Series - a two-wicket victory for New Zealand - but the injury has responded well to treatment and he will now take his place behind the stumps at the MCG.
"The muscle was a bit stiff after the match in Perth on Sunday, but the medical team is confident that Brendon can participate fully in Friday's second ODI," said team manager Lindsay Crocker.
"It's the selectors' wish that Gareth returns to New Zealand to play in this week's round of State Twenty20 games on Wednesday and Friday.
"A decision on whether he returns to cover for Brendon over this heavy schedule after Melbourne will be made on Saturday."
