Sri Lanka spinner misses Test series in Bangladesh through injury

Sri Lanka will be without spinner Ajantha Mandis for their tour of Bangladesh due to an ankle injury. The young star has been a revelation since making his debut early this year, but he will miss the two-Test series starting on December 26. Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath has been called into the Test squad as a replacement, although Sri Lanka Cricket say Mendis would return for the following three-nation one-day series. "The injury will take at least three to four weeks to heal," Sri Lanka team physio Ranjith Nanayakkarawasam said. Mendis exploded onto the scene after making his debut, as he broke a 62-year-old record for the most wickets in a three-match debut series. He has formed a potent spinning attack with Muttiah Muralitharan, but he will now just be trying to regain fitness for the one-dayers. Herath takes his place in the 15-man Test squad with a record of 35 wickets in 13 Tests, with his last Test match coming against the West Indies in March.
