Slimline seamer ready to make an impression at Taunton
Somerset's Steffan Jones believes a winter of hard work Down Under has helped him become a better bowler.
The 34-year-old seamer had a disappointing campaign last season, his first since returning for a second spell at Taunton.
Although the county were promoted to the top division in the County Championship, Jones found himself struggling for overs in a strong attack led by Andy Caddick.
However, a stint playing club cricket Down Under in Tasmania has allowed the Welshman to tinker with his game while also losing a stone and a half.
Early benefits
Jones' efforts already appear to be paying off as he picked up 5-33 in the one-day win over Sussex in in the Pro ARCH Trophy in Abu Dhabi.
"Last season I didn't get much of a bowl because Andrew Caddick and Charl Willoughby were bowling everyone out," he said.
"But I went to Hobart, got some overs under my belt, tinkered with a few things and lost some weight.
"I am perhaps also bowling better because I am not thinking about it so much; I tend to be thinking about who is bowling the next over."
