Gul, 23, has not played since November but was given the all-clear after consulting with specialists in Sydney.

"The doctors said there was no serious problem and I could start bowling but they have advised me not to play regular cricket and take a break whenever I feel any uneasiness until I feel well again," he told Pakistan newspaper The Dawn.

The Pakistan Cricket Board plan to monitor Gul's progress ahead of the home series against Australia in March.

He is also due to participate in the inaugural Indian Premier League Twenty20 competition. The Kolkata franchise paid US$150,000 to secure his services for the event, which is due to start in April.
