Northamptonshire have appointed South African all-rounder Nicky Boje as their new skipper for the coming county season.
David Sales resigned from the captaincy last month after four years in charge, and now Boje will take the reins for the 2008 season.
Northants chief executive Mark Tagg says that the Boje fits the bill of an experienced international capable of leading the side.
"We need an experienced, capable captain who can bring the best out of the talent available," Tagg told the club's official website.
The 34-year-old has 43 Tests for South Africa under his belt, along with 115 one-day internationals before he retired from international cricket.
Now being able to focus fully on Northants for the season, Boje says that his targets for the campaign are promotion in both the county championship and Pro40 league.
"Being asked to captain Northants is a great honour and one I could not have imagined just a few days ago," Boje said.
Boje showcased his skills during his month at Northants last summer, taking 16 wickets in four county championship matches and also hitting 125 with the bat against Leicestershire.
Coach David Capel was delighted with the appointment and said the club would benefit greatly from having "somebody of the calibre and proven track record" that Boje has to be their captain.
