Solanki to lead Lions

Vikram Solanki will captain the England Lions in their one-day match against India on August 18.

Squad packed with international experience

Vikram Solanki will captain the England Lions - formerly known as England A - in their one-day match against India at Northampton on August 18.

The Worcestershire batsman, who has also been selected in England's squad for the Twenty20 World Championship, leads a team full of international experience.

Three players - Ian Bell, Ravinder Bopara and Owais Shah - will play for the Lions before joining the full England ODI squad for the seven-match series against India that follows.

Sussex all-rounder Luke Wright is the only player in the 12-man squad who is not a full international, while 36-year-old wicketkeeper Paul Nixon's selection shows he remains in England's one-day plans.

England Lions squad: VS Solanki (captain, Worcestershire), IR Bell (Warwickshire), RS Bopara (Essex), TT Bresnan (Yorkshire), RJ Kirtley (Sussex), J Lewis (Gloucestershire), DL Maddy (Warwickshire), PA Nixon (wicketkeeper, Leicestershire), CP Schofield (Surrey), OA Shah (Middlesex), JN Snape (Leicestershire), LJ Wright (Sussex).
