Chris Woakes has been called into the England squad for the upcoming three-Test series against New Zealand.
Woakes is the only member of the 15-man squad who was not involved in the series victory against India and he is yet to be capped at Test level.
The Warwickshire all-rounder replaces Tim Bresnan, who will return to the UK after the ODI series against India to see a specialist about his right elbow and the Yorkshireman's availability for the rest of the winter will be determined by that medical advice.
The five players in the squad who are not taking part in the current ODI series (Nick Compton, Graham Onions, Monty Panesar, Kevin Pietersen, Matt Prior) will arrive in New Zealand for a training camp led by Andy Flower ahead of a four-day game against a New Zealand XI.
"With Tim Bresnan currently unavailable while his elbow is assessed there is a good opportunity for Chris Woakes to gain further experience in the international environment."
The first Test starts on 6 March in Dunedin and is followed by games in Wellington and Auckland.
Woakes has also been named in the ODI squad for the three-match series that precedes the Test matches alongside Joe Root and James Harris.
Craig Kieswetter has been dropped from the squad, with James Taylor replacing Joe Root as England Lions captain for the limited overs tour of Australia.
National Selector, Geoff Miller, said: "With Tim Bresnan currently unavailable while his elbow is assessed there is a good opportunity for Chris Woakes to gain further experience in the international environment.
"We have a busy international summer ahead of us and the medical team felt this was an ideal opportunity for Bresnan to take some time out to ensure his elbow is functioning effectively.
"Woakes has impressed on the England Performance Programme and with England Lions and Warwickshire in recent years as well as with England in the limited overs formats.
"Craig Kieswetter has had an extended opportunity in ODI and T20 cricket. He has shown evidence of delivering performances on the international stage however we don't feel these have been delivered consistently enough.
"The door is not closed to Craig, and he can fight his way back into contention for international selection through consistent high performances with Somerset."
