ECB find England star to be in breach of his contract

Kevin Pietersen has been fined by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for comments made on Twitter. The England batsman was summoned to appear at a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday at which he was found to have breached his central contract by making the remarks which related to television commentator Nick Knight. He was subsequently fined an undisclosed sum, part of which has been suspended for 12 months. After the hearing, which was also attended by the managing director of England Cricket, Hugh Morris, and team director Andy Flower, the ECB released a statement which read: "The hearing considered recent comments made by Pietersen on Twitter to be prejudicial to the interests of the ECB and a breach of the England player conditions of employment in relation to clauses regarding public statements.

"Pietersen has been fined an undisclosed sum, part of which has been suspended for 12 months, in accordance with the terms and conditions of his England central contract." Just 24 hours earlier, Pietersen had said he did not expect to face any action and vowed not to tone down his comments on the social-networking site. Pietersen launched his attack on Knight last Friday, questioning the former England opener's credibility as a pundit. Two years ago, in a bid to avoid such controversy, the ECB imposed a set of guidelines for players to adhere to and they acted in accordance with them to fine Pietersen.
