Ben Wheeler gave a New Zealand XI control of their opening tour match against Somerset on day two of four at Taunton.
After the tourists had added 35 runs to their overnight 202 for seven, 23-year-old left-armer Wheeler took five wickets for 18 runs in 11 overs as Somerset were dismissed for 204.
Wheeler put the skids under the hosts, with the wickets of Johann Myburgh (three), Tom Cooper (0), James Hildreth (13) and Jim Allenby (28), leaving the hosts struggling on 54 for five.
Peter Trego (40) and Alex Barrow (32) led a semi-revival with a sixth-wicket partnership of 56, before Wheeler returned to snap up Josh Davey (15).
New Zealand then extended their overall advantage to 182 runs, closing on 149 for three in their second innings.
Mitchell Santner (70 not out) and Tom Latham (57) put on 124 for the second wicket after Hamish Rutherford had been dismissed for 11.
