Kevin Pietersen closed on a Surrey batting record as their County Championship clash with Glamorgan ended in a draw.

Pietersen scored an unbeaten 53 in Surrey's second innings in Cardiff as they reached 207-4, and Glamorgan managed to reach 116-0 having been set an unlikely 352 to win off only 57 overs.

The former England batsman, who is keen to restart his international Test career this summer, hit four fours in a scratchy 70-ball innings, and he was left stranded on 998 runs in 16 innings for the county when captain Gareth Batty declared.

Another former England star Mark Ramprakash and South African Zander de Bruyn hold the Surrey record for the fastest batsman to reach 1,000 runs, both having done so in 18 innings.

He was part of three quick-fire stands for Surrey, who scored at nearly six runs an over in their innings, the best of them coming with 'keeper Gary Wilson (47) as they added an unbroken 86 for the fifth wicket.

But Surrey's bowlers found little life in the Swalec Stadium pitch as Jacques Rudolph and James Kettleborough both made half-centuries.

Rudolph made 52 and Kettleborough had just reached his 50 when Batty and Rudolph agreed to call proceedings to a halt with 20 overs remaining.

Kyle Jarvis took five wickets as Lancashire strolled to a 250-run win over Derbyshire at the 3aaa County Ground.

The Zimbabwe-born seamer returned figures of 5-13 and there were three wickets for youngster Tom Bailey as Derbyshire were dismissed for a paltry 114 in their second innings, having been set 365 for victory on Tuesday.

Derbyshire were already in trouble on 27-2 at the start of the final day's play and they soon lost night-watchman Tom Taylor (2), who became Bailey's second victim after he accounted for Billy Godleman late on day three.

The home side briefly had hopes of at least avoiding defeat when overseas signing Martin Guptill and captain Wayne Madsen were at the crease, putting on a steady 41 for the fourth wicket.

But Jarvis began his fine spell by getting Guptill to tickle an edge through to 'keeper Alex Davies on 32 and he soon dismissed Wes Durston (3) before trapping final specialist batsman Madsen in front for 29.

Derbyshire's lower order all failed to make double figures with Jarvis getting two more LBW decisions before Bailey bowled Harvey Hosein and Simon Kerrigan wrapped up victory by dismissing Mark Footitt for a duck.

"It was great to finish the game off like that and great to get our season under way in such a good fashion," Jarvis said.

"It all happened pretty quickly. I got a bit too full in the first innings and I knew I had to sort it out and that's what I concentrated on, getting my lengths right.

"I have been dying to play my part for Lancs and I'm happy to have got under way now. I never got going last season and I'm just desperate to help out the team in any way."
