Alex Hales made an unbeaten double century as Nottinghamshire amassed 393-7 on the opening day of their LV= County Championship Division One game against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge.

Defending champions Yorkshire made a steady start as Steven Patterson (2-58) trapped Steven Mullaney lbw for 27 and 17-year-old debutant Matthew Fisher (1-68) made an early impact by dismissing Brendan Taylor for the same score to leave Notts on 77-2.

However, that brought England World Cup duo James Taylor and Hales together and the pair put on 171 for the third wicket, with Taylor making 59 before he was lbw to Jack Brooks (2-90).

Brooks quickly followed up by removing Samit Patel for four before tea, but the final session was all about Hales as he took his score to 222 at stumps.
