Kevin Pietersen made only 19 on his 2015 LV= County Championship Division Two bow before Surrey went into overdrive against Glamorgan in Cardiff.

Pietersen was hoping a positive start to the domestic season will help his cause as he seeks an England Test recall ahead of home series against New Zealand and Ashes rivals Australia.

He was making his first County Championship appearance since 2013, having only played limited-overs cricket last season, and came to the crease with Surrey on 111-2, openers Rory Burns and Zafar Ansari dismissed in quick succession after a stand that lasted just about all of the morning session.

Pietersen soon got into his stride with a couple of lovely fours in the same Andy Carter over, although he was lucky to escape on a mistimed hook off Graham Wagg that narrowly beat the fine-leg fielder.

He picked up the fourth boundary of his innings when he drove the ball over the head of left-arm spinner Dean Cosker.

However, Pietersen's 28-ball stay ended when he pushed hard at Craig Meschede's medium pace and edged to Colin Ingram at first slip, with Surrey reduced to 150-3 and relying on Kumar Sangakkara to rescue them.
